Privacy policy
Updated 12 October 2026
Fastlight is a Mac file-search app in development. This policy describes the current app design and this website. We will update it if the app’s data practices change before release.
Your files and searches
Fastlight processes selected files and searches on your Mac. File contents, search queries, extracted text, and embeddings are not uploaded to a search server. The app does not include advertising, third-party analytics, or an account system.
What stays on your Mac
The local index can contain file paths, metadata, extracted document or code text, and numerical embeddings. Selected-folder authorization bookmarks, settings, downloaded models, and diagnostic logs also stay on your Mac. Logs may include paths, timing information, and errors. Do not share a log without checking it for private information.
Folder access and retention
You select the folders Fastlight can access through macOS. Excluded or removed locations are hidden from search, and index cleanup follows when indexing can run. Unavailable drives or missing permissions do not automatically erase retained index data. Removing an indexed folder does not delete your original files.
To erase local app data, quit Fastlight, then remove its Fastlight Application Support folder inside its macOS app container. This deletes indexes, folder bookmarks, logs, and models; app preferences are managed separately by macOS. Removing the app alone may leave its container data on disk. We cannot remotely inspect or erase data stored only on your Mac.
Model downloads
Semantic search requires downloaded models. Fastlight requests pinned model files from Hugging Face and its delivery providers. Those services receive network information such as your IP address and the requested model URL. Your local files and search queries are not included in these requests. See Hugging Face’s privacy policy.
This website
This website has no analytics script, advertising tracker, contact form, or application-set cookies. Its sample search filters fictional files locally in your browser. Cloudflare hosts and delivers the site and may process technical request data, including IP addresses, for delivery and security. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
