Fastlight

For Mac. In development.

Find the file
you’re thinking of.

The notes from that meeting. A screenshot you saved last week. Describe what you remember, and let Fastlight search the folders you choose.

Try this illustration with a sample query. It filters fictional files in your browser; it does not access your files or run the app’s search model.

A little less looking.
A little more finding.

Use the words you remember.

Search by meaning when the filename escapes you, or use exact words when you know what you need.

Stay in your flow.

Bring up search with a keyboard shortcut. Preview a matching page or moment without losing your place.

Choose where to search.

Select folders yourself. Add exclusions, and keep code search optional with its own selected folders.

Your files belong
on your Mac.

Fastlight processes searches on your Mac. Your files, queries, and search index are not sent to a search service.

A one-time model download of about 865 MB enables semantic search. File names already in your index remain searchable while the model is unavailable.

A few things to know.

Can I download Fastlight today?

Fastlight is in development. There is no public download or App Store listing yet. This page introduces the app as it is being prepared for release.

Does Fastlight search my whole Mac?

You choose which folders the app can access. macOS permissions, excluded folders, supported file types, and locally available files determine what can be searched. Fastlight does not require Full Disk Access.

Do I need an account?

The app does not require an account for local search. Model downloads need an internet connection; local search does not use a cloud account.

Can I search source code?

Code search is optional, with separate selected folders. It is being prepared to work without a separately installed Git or Python runtime.
